‘Artist’ is an all – encompassing term that wraps up many a discipline in a cultural blanket of human expression and progress. Occasionally, an individual emerges who blurs the lines between these disciplines, breathing narrative into visual art and illustration into the twists and turns of fictional writing. Ryder is one such artist.

 The identity of ‘Ryder’ is a mystery, even to us here in the gallery. Little is known about this enigmatic character as they have chosen to let their art speak for itself. ‘Ryder’, is no more, no less than a name on a piece of paper. No Artist biography to influence your impressions, no collection overview to police your critique, just the art laid bare. This artwork speaks for itself with its whimsical characters and fantastical landscapes. We hope that you are as excited as we are to embark on this fantastical adventure through Ryder’s world.

We're delighted to announce the forthcoming launch of 'Revisionist Art', a hand signed collection of limited edition silkscreens on canvas and paper from Bob Dylan.

In 1965 Bob Dylan picked up an electric guitar and changed the face of rock and roll music forever. In 2014 he challenges our perception of him as an artist.

Dylan has never been afraid to defy his audience – many times he has left them struggling to keep up. He left behind the protest songs and swapped his acoustic guitar for an electric one, bewildering many of his fans. But none of this ever seems to concern Dylan, his eyes are firmly fixed on the road ahead, never looking back.

In 2008 Dylan captivated the world with the Drawn Blank Series. Revisionist Art could not be any more different. This collection reveals a hard-edged, conceptual form of art that boldly displays the Dylan-esque artistic intelligence fully at work. Bob Dylan is once again showing us the world as he sees it, and he challenges us to come along for the ride.

With Revisionist Art Dylan looks to re-evaluate and re-contextualise things that we have known and maybe taken for granted. It can satirise, it can parody, and it can also seek truths that were missed or even hidden the first time around. It aims to shine a light in the face of passive acceptance and make the audience pause and think again.

Meet The Artist...Paul Horton!

   

Paul Horton will be making a personal appearance here at the gallery in Newcastle on Saturday 22nd March. Paul will be available to chat and dedicate artwork between 1-4pm. 

After the success of his museum show Love & Hope in Birmingham in October last year, which exhibited over 80 originals, Paul shows no signs of slowing down. He has established a reputable name in contemporary art, renowned for a wonderful array of characters and street scenes, offering universal themes that appeal to people of all ages.   

We will be exhibiting a large collection of originals, signed limited edition prints and a number of rare pieces that we are extremely lucky to get our hands on. Here is just a small selection...

Introducing...Chris Acheson

Meet exciting new artist Chris Acheson.

Taking inspiration from Andy Warhol and popular street culture, Chris Acheson's work is vivid and humorous. A chance photograph of mannequins in a shop window inspired Chris' latest works.

The themes of Chris' work are varied but popular street culture, cinema and music are key. As are the album covers and film posters from his youth. Chris feels that his work could easily be recognised as his take on Roxy Music album covers and Hammer Horror film posters.

The detail and narrative possibilities in the work of Millais, Waterhouse and Hughes, together with artists local to Chris such as Vallette and Lowry, have also influenced his style.

The stagnant, staged interior world of the shop dummy is transformed by reflected random exterior image of a bustling street into an abstract and possibly humorous image. I like the way the two worlds collided.

The Edward Weston Collection

We are extremely excited to announce the release of a collection of intimate and iconic images of Marilyn Monroe...

This portfolio of eight iconic images is taken from the private collection of Edward Weston. As a famed art publisher, Weston built his extensive collection over five decades. A pioneer in collection Hollywood Glamour photography, he established it as a form of fine art over 50 years ago. Weston’s archive boats some of the most evocative images ever taken from the golden era, most notably of Marilyn Monroe.

This collection spans the career of the ultimate Hollywood star, from her early days as an actress in 1948, to her final photo shoot in 1962. These intimate and revealing portrayals were taken by some of Marilyn’s most trusted photographers; Laszlo Willinger, Andre De Dienes, Kashio Aoki and George Barris and celebrate her life beyond the movie set. 

With Marilyn I never fall out of love.
